Ukraine has inherited the education system from the former Soviet Union that was firmly grounded in math and science. Which continues to produce a large pool of diverse high caliber engineering talent. The industry grape vine says that Ukrainian developers tend to perform very well in situations where specifications are not well- defined and where ?out-of-the-box¦ complex solutions are needed. In these cases, the customer turns to the Ukrainian outsourcing companies to come with the overall solution as opposed to the deliver on a well-defined specification.
At the same time, Ukraine's favorable geopolitical situation makes Ukraine a much more favorable destination. The Orange revolution of 2004 and the resulting nascent democracy in Ukraine have contributed to making Ukraine a preferred outsourcing destination. Ukraine has become more easily accessible, and a friendlier and more transparent place for investing and conducting business due in part to the non-visa regime for residents of the EU and USA instituted in May 2006. Further, Ukraine is a short distance away from Western Europe: Kyiv, the capital, is a 2-3 hour flight from any major Western European capital. Finally, Ukraine has a cost advantage over its European counterparts and will be part of European Union in near future.
